GET READY TO PLOW
4/22/08
While NOAA reports that this past March was the second warmest on record, the NW region of Ohio had lots of rain. As in water, flooding, standing still water, puddles, and mud. You may recall this use to be a swamp. Which means the dirt holds water on the surface for a long time.
Seeds (where food really comes from) can drown in too much water. Just like they'll dehydrate with not enough. Picky, picky plants. They are almost as bad as Goldilocks who wanted everything to be "....just right.".
So some farmers have started planting, while others are waiting for a little more sun and evaporation to get started. That big green thing? That's a tractor. You use it to dig in the dirt and put seeds in the ground. Guess how much diesel fuel is today? $4.09 a gallon. Want to know how many gallons planting will cost?
