Asparagus

It takes three years for an asparagus bed to start producing, but once it starts, you can harvest for 20 years with the right care and maintenance.

Otherwise April through June are prime months for these slender members of the lily family, and the cool, wet spring we've had has helped everyone in the region grow a bumper crop this year.

Keep your asparagus cool, wrapped in a damp cloth, and although some of us swear by them freshly steamed and served with butter, we're giving you a wonderful brunch recipe to consider. Bon appetite!
