Tomatoes

Arrested tomato? Recent food safety scare? The tomato, an international fruit masquerading for centuries before the U.S. Supreme court decided it was a vegetable. How many things do you eat with a rap sheet? (See Nix v Hedden, 149 U.S. 304 (1893).

If you could actually compare a December tomato with a in-season tomato you’d never go back to the out of season version. With a renewed interest in heirloom (older breeds) tomato’s fans have more options than ever.

These “vegetables” take 75 to 80 days from seed to harvest. Get em ripe, eat them fresh and at room temperature, as they tend to loose flavor when they are stored in the fridge.
